The Orange County Campus’ Fifth Annual Gala and Fundraiser – A Night in Paris - will be held on Saturday, November 22, 2008, at the Orange Hill Restaurant (http://www.theorangehillrestaurant.com which offers spectacular views of Orange County. Be ready for a fun-filled evening where amidst our silent and live auctions, you will get to sample the 2008 Beaujolais Nouveau, and dance the night away at Orange County's Best Restaurant as voted by AOL City Guide 2006, the 2008 Top Ten Chefs of Orange County, and as rated by 714 Magazine.),

Since LILA is a not-for-profit school, the tuition paid is not enough to also cover the cost of expanding and upgrading our facilities. The Gala is one way to raise funds to enable the campus to relocate to a larger facility where we will be able to offer Preschool to 8th grade classes and a variety of age-appropriate after school programs.

We would very much like to count on your support in our ongoing campaign to relocate to a larger campus!

The French Ministry of education has just announced that the often discussed, but never confirmed, Bac Franco-American which would link the French baccalaureate and the American AP systems by allowing students to substitute certain traditional subjects taken for a French Bac with AP exams is set to begin next year.  In essence, students entering 11th grade in September 2009 would have three AP courses as part of their program (see table).  The new program is very much an issue of great debate amongst French school directors in the network.

Burning issues are:

-         Costs involved as clearly all French Bac students would not want or linguistically be able to follow the AP structure.

-         Quality of the program.  The AP is known for its “learn by heart” and ultimately multiple guess testing format which does not necessarily fit into an essay-driven, critical thinking mentality that has been the cornerstone of our educational philosophy… But would the marriage be a wonderful opportunity to marry the two systems?

What is clear is that, as with any program brought to us by the French ministry, it will be something we look into as a school.  If it is in the best interest of our kids, we will definitely be discussing this option again!

Every year when we send our kids to school we know that at some point a professional photographer will come to school and take a picture of our babies in an oh-so-natural pose so that we can then send it to family members and friends and record their constant evolution...  Well this year, the Los Feliz campus has decided to shake things up a little.

We are both proud and honored that Doug Piburn, a LILA parent and a professional photographer has decided to devote several days to photograph our beautiful children and help us mark their school year in a new and exciting way.

Parents have received a picture day schedule via email.  Picture taking starts on Monday October 13th so if for some reason you did not get the email, please contact the campus directly to get a copy emailed to you.

Every year the Spaghetti Dinner is one of the Los Feliz campus' biggest an d most successful social gatherings. On any given Sunday, Los Feliz families show up mid-afternoon with their children and spend the rest of the day socializing and just enjoying spending time together. It is a time for both children and parents to have a great time. This year, the event has been expanded to include families from all campuses and is bound to be a huge success. The guest of honor this year will be Gisele Manchev, Los Feliz's long-time elementary division head who just retired after being with LILA for 18 years! Tickets on sale at each campus.

In an effort to provide the quality education that our school community expects, and to prepare for our upcoming 5-year Strategic Plan Meeting in October, we are asking you to complete ONE satisfaction survey per family. The survey results will help us evaluate current programs and facilities, as well as identify areas of growth on each campus.

The survey will take 20 to 40 minutes to complete but your time and input is valuable!  The survey will close October 6th, so please act now!
