West Valley 2nd grade teacher, Laurence Pelletier, had an ambitious project. She wanted to familiarize her students to an Opera. After prepping her students for two months and getting them excited, Laurence brought her class to see the first half of Bizet’s Carmen which is currently playing at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion.
The kids came to school dressed up and ready to go. They were a sight to see, these distinguished little opera fans… and the audience members noticed these pint-sized sophisticates!
They knew the work like the back of their hand, many were singing along (discreetly and with restraint). They had questions and comments about the way the actors appeared and the choices made to set the stage…
Our little 2nd graders, Opera connoisseurs and critiques… a beautiful day indeed.
