When Simon Toselli
became our Athletic Director this year, few people doubted that he would do an amazing job… The secondary students who knew him both as coach and teacher embraced the idea immediately with open
arms… and he has not disappointed… in fact I think he went beyond the kids’ wildest expectations when he brought an added dimension to the now yearly showdown between our LILA High
School Boys’ basketball team and cross-town rival Lycée Français… These games traditionally have a buzz to them… but Simon thought the showdown
needed to have a more dramatic setting… And, thanks to his hard work, the boys will get to meet the Lycée Français next week … at the STAPLES center!
They are in essence the opening act to the Clippers’ professional game scheduled later that evening. If that weren’t good enough, our very own LILA
hig
h school singers will actually also be performing the National Anthem at the
game… Toni Kasza, our beloved music teacher tells about how this added miracle came to pass:
“Woohoo!!! Our five singing seniors have been asked to sing before
our high school basketball match AND again before the Clippers' Game. (Hold on, I've got to take another sip of my champagne...)
They had asked for one or two singers - we did a quick demo, which they didn't love and so I took the "Hide & Seek" five on Saturday for two hours. We came up with the arrangement, James recorded it and mixed it in his bedroom, Simon begged for a second listen, et voila!!!!
I guess I'm excited. The kids are over the moon."
We purchased 100 tickets for the event and they sold out immediately… any family that now wants to join in this extraordinary life
experience should contact the front desk for information or go directly through the Staples Center…
