Fundraising

One of the many things I love about our community is that we rally.

It’s not so much about scratching each other’s backs as it is about supporting our community’s various efforts.

Whether we are approached to host parent workshops, ask for volunteers and donations, or recommend each other’s talents and service, one thing we are really good at is banding together.

I’m sure you are all familiar with the “Je suis LILA” video on our website, well the creative force behind that little gem is Pedro Pablo Celedón. He also was the creative force behind a video to help promote our scholarship program (you may not have seen it yet so I am including it here).

His latest endeavor Hand Made in Habana, is something I think is worth supporting. Have a look at the Kickstarter page and maybe you’ll feel inspired to rally!

AD 10-11 Report publishEvery year we campaign… we request, we explain, we advocate, we may even plead just a little… Each year more and more members of our community see the difference their donations make and more and more people contribute to help support our school!  Last year participation grew from 39% in 2009-2010 to 75% in 2010-2011 LILA-wide and brought in an additional $111,909 to our LILA budget to help fund many exciting projects for the 2011-2012 school year!

There are so many fantastic projects and so much to report – You will catch many in plain sight on your respective campuses but I know you are all looking forward to also reading about the fabulous things we were able to do in our annual fall fundraising LILA Gazette … soon to appear in a snail mail envelope coming straight to your home!  The third annual fundraising LILA Gazette is in production as we speak… we are so excited to share with you all the amazing ways your generous donations have contributed to educating our 900 LILA students.

Thank you for sharing your lives, your time, and also your personal resources. Most of all, I can’t thank each of you enough for entrusting your children’s education to us, and for being part of this slightly crazy bilingual journey that helps support our students as they grow into stronger, better prepared, lifelong learners.

image 292If there’s one way in which our parents never cease to amaze me it’s in their generosity … and ability to have a good time!

Our Galas have always been a great success and this year was no exception.

The venue was gorgeous, the attendees looked great and the music, food and entertainment were exceptional.

As always, hats off to our Gala Committee – your tireless work paid off again.

Speaking of paying off, here’s a look at campus totals…

This year's annual drive lets people choose where the money they donate goes.  In a way, it is like voting for what you feel the school should be placing budgetary priorities on.  So where are the funds going?  In terms of percentages at an all campus level... money donated to this year's annual drive has been earmarked as follows... If you have not already done so... cast your vote...

I know this is a really busy time of year for all, but how could you possibly not notice the adorable poster boy on your campus walls … you know, the one holding the 100% sign? He’s there to remind all of us that LILA’s Annual Drive is now in full swing… all parents were sent invitations to participate last week and it is also accessible at www.lilaschool.com/annualdrive/ .

As a quick summary, donations made to LILA’s Annual Drive before December 31st are 100% tax-deductible for 2010. Although all projects are worthy, donors are invited to designate both the campus and campaign which are their personal top priorities.

Campaigns include:kid poster

  • Campus improvements
  • LILA scholarships
  • Library
  • Technology infrastructure
  • Performing and Visual Arts programs
  • Science & Technology in the classroom
  • Professional development

All funds raised will be put to good use, but it’s the mere fact that YOU participate as much as you can that is crucial. Before grant makers will take our requests seriously, we need to prove that the majority of our own community is on board.

As parents, you may wonder why you should care if we receive grants. Basic math gives us the answer. We will not compromise our academic programs, so the more funds we can get from external sources (grants and sponsorships) lessens the need for funds from internal sources (tuition).  Money you pay to LILA in the form of tuition is not tax-deductible, while money donated is. So by giving to the Annual Drive, your children benefit and so do you!

As you are making your holiday list, and checking it twice, please add your Annual Drive donation... giving your child a great education is a timeless gift!
